Acupuncture - more than needles
This information is for information on acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. For questions regarding Arvigo, please refer to the Arvigo section.
What do you treat?
With acupuncture the patient is at the centre of the treatment plan. So while you may present with certain symptoms or even a diagnosis; it is the root cause rather than the symptom that is targeted. By the time you book in with me, you may have seen many specialists and just want relief from your symptoms. So here are my special interest and what I see in practice:
endometriosis & PCOS, pain & menstruation, menopause & peri-menopause
fertility & pregnancy, including IVF support and labour prep
mental health including anxiety & depression, panic attacks, insomnia
IBS-like symptoms & bloating, chronic constipation or diarrhoea, parasites & food intolerances
complex trauma
What to expect?
In your first session, Jacqueline will do a comprehensive review of your medical history. You will receive your first acupuncture treatment of the day. While you may find improvement after your initial session; long-lasting results usually require a 3-months commitment to the treatment plan.
In addition to acupuncture, other modalities such as cupping, electroacupuncture, moxibustion or gua sha may be used as required.
Does acupuncture help with IVF treatments and labour preparation?
Yes. Absolutely. Jacqueline is experienced in supporting IVF with acupuncture as well as labour preparation. It is best to start treatments in week 36 to help with a smooth delivery.
Do I need to take Chinese herbs if I don’t want to?
No, you do not need to take herbal medicine. Acupuncture can achieve great results and it is the focus of my personal practice. Herbal tea may be recommended especially if you cannot attend acupuncture sessions weekly.
How do I know herbs are save and how do I get my herbal prescription?
I order through a certified third-party supplier who do their own quality checks. I commonly prescribe granules that are to be mixed with warm water to make a “tea”. It provides the benefit of more potency as it is closer to raw herbs, without the effort of having to boil it. It can be bitter or quite pleasant tasting, entirely dependent on your prescription.
If you are prescribed herbs for parasites I will use raw herbs and a different herbal provider. Again, their herbs are tested and of exceptional quality.
Do you offer other services?
As part of an acupuncture session I may use cupping, gua sha or moxibustion. These tools are there to support your treatment. Different treatment goals may require a variety of these adjunct therapies at one or more sessions. I also offer Mayan abdominal therapy, also known as Arvigo, which I may recommend to book in a separate session to further support your healing journey.
What does acupuncture cost?
Acupuncture sessions are $180 initially including treatment plan and then $130 subsequently. Herbs cost $120/fortnight. Arvigo is $250 per session.
Where do you practice?
I currently see clients on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.
Can I see you outside of those hours?
Not at the moment as I have a little one waiting for me at home.
Can I get rebates?
Yes. The amount will vary depending on your private healthcare provider.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Any medical diagnoses/reports and recent blood results can be helpful. Wear comfortable clothes if practical.
